We've been hearing about the post-PC from the original 2010 Keynote in the submission of the iPad . The tablet over a fulminant with netbooks, those small and cheap laptops that were used to consume content.
However, with increasing power and capabilities of the new iPad , one wonders how soon the tablet in the notebook also end. A study conducted by NPD set this date in 2016, within four years.
Looking at the graph is well understood. The number of netbooks (orange) will decrease and disappear in a few years, as the tablets have supplanted all its functions. In addition, at some point around 2016 in which the number of tablets (green) will exceed 350 million units, roughly the same amount of notebooks (blue).
In fact, this would correspond to an annual growth of 28%. Moreover, in 2017 we would have more than 416 million tablets in the market, while the number of laptops do not come to 394 million. And speaking of tablets: 95% of traffic comes from tablets, corresponding to the iPad from Apple.
