The FCC last spring revealed that 40% of all robberies important roles in the city of New York are designed to smartphones. Now Raymond Kelly, police commissioner of New York, said that 40% of thefts of devices is for Apple products. This has been suffered Rolfe Winkler, correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, which was recently docked in Brooklyn carrying an iPad. So says Winkler:

"I was distracted reading an e-book when the subway doors opened on Bergen Street in Brooklyn. In an instant, a pair of hands beat me and I yanked off the iPad. I chased the guy instinctively. But he was not alone, and had some companions who had not seen. So, instead of retrieving the iPad, I found myself lying on the ground bleeding and starting with the jaw. "

Winkler also cited a 2011 report from the NYPD in which details a rising tide of "iCrímenes"

"How big is the wave iCrímenes? Official data are not available, but in New York, there were over 26,000 complaints of theft of electronic devices in the first 10 months of 2011. Of these 26,000, 81% are mobile phones. In Washington DC, the thefts of mobile phones rose by 54% between 2007 and 2011, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. And the data can drastically underestimate the theft, since many of them are not robberies, so victims do not report it. "

The growing tendency to steal Apple devices is not limited to New York. In May, an important woman, now known as "iThief" stole more than 100 iPad Texas based chain of Walmarts. The retail giant, even videotaped the exit. Retail crime is not as threatening as the violent attacks, however, there are extreme cases, like one that happened earlier this month when masked assailants with assault rifles, hit a truck loaded with Apple products passed through Aulnay-sous-Bois, in Paris.

So you are warned, if you travel to New York very careful with removing your iPhone or iPad in that area as it is fashionable to steal Apple devices.
