The trial between Samsung and Apple is leaving us a series of images and statements that have no waste. A few days ago we saw the first models of the iPhone , now comes the turn to the Apple smartphone. Samsung accuses Apple of copying a design inspired by Sony for the design of the iPhone. The Koreans point to a BusinessWeek interview in 2006 in which Takashi Ashida and Yujin Morisawa, Sony designers, showed his technique and philosophy of design that Sony used.
Tony Fadell, iPod Godfather apparently showed the BusinessWeek article on Steve Jobs and Apple design chief Jonathan Ive, which could have approved the use of some ideas in this interview for the models of the first iPhone . Here's an excerpt from an interview with BusinessWeek that describes the design philosophy of Sony:
"The spirit of Sony trying to be original, not a copy. Usually we do not rely on the polls, because we are always trying to do something never done before. "
Do not trust the polls for something you really like Apple.
"When Sony opened its first design center in 1961, designed for teams colors were black and white. The idea was to end the excessive ornamentation. We are continuing the tradition. "
The argument is that Samsung is Apple borrowed the Sony design first used in its Walkman NW-A 1200 Yujin Morisawa designer, created for getting rid of the buttons and end the excessive ornamentation.
On this issue, include the Steve Jobs had contempt for the physical buttons. When asked about the amount of influence that had the Walkman designed by Morisawa in Apple's iPod, he replied:
"When I started this project, I watched the first Walkman, launched in 1979, and I thought how I can shape the music? The music is formless, flowing. I was listening to music and waving in the air. I thought there should be an end to the lines, so I drew a round, and kept the line moving.
My team showed me some pictures, was a square with a screen and buttons. Most other products had a screen and buttons. My first model did not have buttons, I did not want buttons.
I thought, how can we do something different? I knew what I wanted to put inside it, so I started with the exterior design. I knew the hard drive capacity and the amount of chips that would have. "
John Paczkowski, AllThingsD blog owner and writer for The Wall Street Journal, citing Apple Samsung indictment for stealing the design of Sony:
"Immediately after the publication of the BusinessWeek article that was distributed internally at Apple, and designer Shin Nishibori was instructed to prepare a phone with a design like" likes to Sony ", and then had CAD drawings and a model 3 dimensions.
Confirming the source design, the CAD designs prepared by Nishibori Apple even had the Sony brand stamped prominently in the design of the phone, to the pictures. "
In the picture that heads this article you can see the images that are discussed. However, it should be noted that an internal model is not too problem in itself. This one, however, if it could be:
"Shortly after the March 8, 2006, Richard Howarth, designer of Apple, said that, in contrast to other internal design that was under consideration, the design" Sony Style "that had made Mr. Nishibori empowered" a much more small with a better way to have it near your ear and in the pocket "and had a greater" benefit of comfort and size. ""
Moreover, Nishibori later confirmed in his testimony that his model inspired by Sony iPhone "changed the course of the project that produced the final design of the iPhone." Samsung is leveraging this fact to try to instill the idea that Apple did not have enough ideas before seeing this design in order to weaken the legal position of Apple. The Samsung legal brief says:
"Samsung has used the same design concepts of knowledge that Apple took from other competitors such as Sony, to develop the iPhone."
Before all this, Samsung claimed that Apple had sold zero units of the iPhone if it were not for its patented wireless standards.
Official documents also show that Google has attempted to influence Samsung to not copy both the iPhone , as we saw in iPadizate. On the other hand, today we also know that Apple will not have to publish a notice stating that Samsung will not copy, for now, until October.
On July 30, continuing the trial. We will see more fun facts teach us.
What do you think the defense that uses Samsung?
