The status bar is one of those elements that have remained unchanged since the existence of IOS.
With the arrival of IOS 6, this bar leaves its classic black color and adapts to the application you're currently running. The visual change still does not work in all applications but you can see the example of eBay or MyRevenue app.
It is unclear whether this change of view is something that IOS automatically performed or are developers who have to use an API that allows the status bar color to give it a look similar to your application.
Another slightly new look of IOS 6 and certainly there are still many undiscovered also come out as betas are changing more.
