Since the advent of iOS 5 if you play a song or video in an application like Spotify and music sales will continue playing it your background, you will still hear the audio track or video, but Safari does not.
If you add this feature you can install Web Background Playback video, this modification allows your videos to Youtube (or any other video hosting) continue playing in the background when you exit Safari.
