The new typeface called Avenir Apple

Some changes that are made when upgrading operating systems are virtually undetectable. Some users around the world have detected a change of the font used Apple. With the release of OS X Lion Mountain gives way to a new typeface called Avenir.

Avenir typeface designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1988 and inspired by the typeface Futura, but differs from it in the use of vertical lines thicker than horizontal, and the letter "o" that forms a perfect circle. The reason for these differences is to help make it more readable and more modern.

The first typeface was used Apple Garamond. Was used during the years 70-90, both on the logo like the Mac and Powerbook. Here's a sample:

In 2002, Apple decided to switch to a typeface designed by Robert Slimbach and Carol Twombly, whose name is Myriad. This font is still in force in almost all products, advertising, boxes and company logos. He received some criticism when it was changed because people were used to Garamond, and we know that man is a creature of habit. In recent years Apple has added Helvetica and Lucida Grande both IOS devices and OS X.

Avenir is exploding onto the Apple world. For now we can see it in Siri notifications in addition to the new mapping application IOS. Also present in OS X Mountain Lion, albeit more discreetly. Do not know how to advance the implementation of this new font, but it is clear that Apple wants its mobile operating systems and desktops merge almost everywhere, probably even in the typeface. This concern for detail design is what makes Apple different.
