How profitable is Cydia, App Store jailbreak , and what happens with the Mac version of Cydia? Jay Freeman (Saurik), founder of Cydia, recently answered this question. The explanations came for some complaints from users unhappy with the lack of updates of Cydia and the nonappearance of a Mac version In response to comments criticizing that Saurik is left 30% of each application sold in Cydia, like Apple does with its App Store, where you Saruik replied explaining much of that 30%. In ModMyi we read:
"Of 100% of the application, 70% stays with the developer, 7.5% is for Paypal and 7.5% is VAT, so it is nowhere near 30% so I stay . Cydia has a higher cost than I thought it would, in part because the costs of Paypal to send money to thousands of people every week (developers). If we add the necessary bandwidth, servers and two employees who have contracted SaurikIT, very little remains. Also, add what is spent in the community, including bandwidth for applications such as TinyUnbrella, open conference sponsorships, et cetera. The server TSS / SHSH we have and so many people love, it costs several thousand dollars a month. "
The difference between revenue and profits often seem confusing, not only with respect to Saurik, also with regard to Apple. Like the App Store and Google Android Play, Cydia costs money, and much, not all revenue generated will pay for the bandwidth, the cost of transactions, hosting and all that entails maintaining a great online store.
Saurik also explained why it was not released a version of Cydia for Mac:
"As I have said many times, I have very negative information when I announced I could throw it, including full articles in those who call me stupid, even just laughed at me for suggesting the idea. It was not until six months later, when Lion was launched when a number of people decided that "maybe Saurik is not so stupid after all." "
Saurik also spoke about the acquisition of Rock, the fight against Dreamboard Winterboard and some other interesting topics. You can view the complete article here .
