Companies such as Sony (and Apple itself), they do not want to know anything of the word "Jailbreak." However, oddly enough, Microsoft has decided to adopt a different policy rewarding the first hacker who was able to make Windows Jailbreak Phone 7.
It seems that Microsoft has finally understood the importance of homebrew applications. This way you can, Windows Phone 7 would be better optimized and would grow much faster with applications developed by third parties.
The Redmond company has been citing several hackers to discuss a possible legal support for homebrew applications (developed by third parties without the approval of Microsoft). A good way of keeping everyone happy without having to go to trial or similar.
Geohot himself (he was recently contacted by Microsoft) has welcomed this initiative from Microsoft.
