Apple Reduces Orders to LG Panel for the iPad by 90%

LG has been used to supply Apple between 4 and 6 million 9.7-inch LCD panels to Apple every month. These panels are used in the manufacture of the iPad, but as reported by Digitimes Asian publication, during the month of January the company has shipped only 600,000 panels, a figure lower than the usual infinitely.

Currently there is no official confirmation that the figure has fallen so much and also not know the reasons clear. Still, Digitimes dare give voice to one of their sources and say that some of this decline is due to the arrival of the iPad mini. Furthermore, say that January is usually not a good month of sales, so it is "normal" that LG has had this drop in shipments.

Digitimes reports:

"The 90% decline in January, was a major contributing factor to the overall performance of LG Display, but the company expects to see a surge in shipments of panels for the 9.7-inch iPad in the second quarter due to launch of the next generation of iPad in the third quarter "

Another possible reason for the drop in orders is that Apple may be planning to use the GF2 touch screen technology that has been used in the iPad mini for the next generation of iPad. There are several rumors that it will, so it is clear that this could be another reason for the few items that LG has made to the company during the month of January and would be a very bad news for LG Display, as it could be losing a very important customer.

A research report prepared by WitsView says sales of full-size iPad only represent 35% of sales of tablets from Apple today. No official confirmation that this is true, but it's no secret that the iPad mini has been a tremendous sales success, so you might be right. The report also claims that Apple is preparing what will be the future iPad in May , to try to stop the bleeding of their tablet sales and return to interest consumers.

At the moment there is no official information and all this is based on hearsay and expert estimates in the industry, so you have to be patient and wait for the Cupertino company decides to make a move.
