Las funciones de control remoto y micrófono se mantienen igual en los EarPods, permitiendo controlar la música y las llamadas telefónicas. El mando a distancia del cable es ahora más grande, sin embargo, así es mucho más fácil de buscar a ciegas y de usar en situaciones de la vida real.

Después de casi 10 años, Apple ha decidido retirar oficialmente el conector dock unidireccional de 30 pines y sustituirlo por un nuevo, pequeño, delgado y bidireccional conector dock para la próxima década. Se llama Lightning y es un 80% más pequeño que el anterior, además ofrece 8 señalas totalmente digitales.

Apple no podía usar su conector Thunderbolt porque este necesita una arquitectura PCI. Eso significa que, sí, Lightning no es tan rápido como Thunderbolt. También significa que, mientras que en un lado Lightning es totalmente nuevo, en el otro sigue siendo un USB 2.0.

Con la llegado de tecnologías como AirPlay, WiFi Sync, AirPrint e iCloud que no necesitan para nada el cable, ¿por qué no eliminar el conector dock del todo?

Porque los cables todavía siguen siendo útiles para mover archivos más grandes más rápidamente y, fundamentalmente, para la carga del dispositivo. A diferencia de Palm, Samsung y Nokia, Apple todavía no ve la carga inalámbrica como una característica viable, e incluso si lo hiciera, pasarían años antes de que se pudiera reemplazar el cable para la carga completamente. El video analógico y los conectores serie de los televisores más antiguos e instrumentos científicos no creo que estén en la agenda de Apple, sin embargo, y aunque es posible que en un futuro aparezcan, los cambios en las licencias de Apple que coinciden con Lightning podrían hacer más difícil para los pequeños proveedores fabricar cables especializados y accesorios, alentando así el paso a los estándares de vídeo modernos y la conectividad Bluetooth 4.0.

Viendo esto podríamos pensar que Apple sólo ha cambiado a Lightning para darnos dolor de cabeza, pero hay una característica nueva que justifica el cambio, conseguir un iPhone más delgado.

iPhone 5: La vida de la batería

Como todo los dispositivos iOS recientes, el iPhone 5 tiene una batería de litio que puede cargarse a través de USB conectado a la corriente o al ordenador. El tiempo de conversación en 3G es exactamente el mismo que en el iPhone 4S, 8 horas. El tiempo en espera ha incrementado en 25 horas, quedándose ahora en 225 horas. El tiempo de uso con internet ha aumentado 2 horas en 3G y 1 hora en WiFi, estando ahora en 8 y 10 horas respectivamente. El iPhone 5 también tiene una autonomía en LTE de 8 horas. Reproduciendo audio y vídeo siguen siendo 40 y 10 horas respectivamente.

En las pruebas realizadas, los números que proporciona Apple parecen ser más o menos exactos. Dejando el iPhone 5 sin tocar durante un largo periodo de tiempo, por ejemplo por la noche, la descarga de batería ha sido mínima, y con un uso moderado del iPhone 5 la batería ha durado fácilmente un día. Con un uso pesado, como un día en la carretera o en una conferencia, seguramente tendréis que cargarlo más de una vez.

La señal del operador que tengamos también afecta a la batería, aunque parezca mentira. Si la señal de nuestro operador llega fuerte y consistente, la duración de la batería será mayor que si la señal del operador es débil. Cualquier mínimo detalle afecta a la vida útil de la batería.

Debido a todas las notificaciones push, la ubicación y los servicios iCloud en iOS, además de la velocidad de las redes LTE, puedes gastar mucha batería en el iPhone 5. Si has restaurado desde un iPhone anterior, también podrías tener problemas a nivel de sistema que reduzcan la vida útil de la batería. Si se configura como un iPhone nuevo y todavía tenéis problemas, mejor consultar con Apple. En un iPhone 5 que se creó como nuevo y dándole caña en cuanto a aplicaciones, iCloud, ubicación y otros servicios, la vida de la batería ha dado un resultado excelente. iPhone 5: La experiencia

El iPhone 5 viene con iOS 6 y sus más de 200 nuevas funciones de cara al cliente, incluyendo los nuevos Mapas, los nuevos conocimientos de Siri, una profunda integración con Facebook, posibilidad de compartir las Fotos en Streaming, Passbook, nuevas funciones para Teléfono, Mail y Safari, FaceTime sobre red móvil, mejoras en la accesibilidad y soporte mejorado para China.

iPhone 5: La interfaz

La principal diferencia de iOS 6 en el iPhone 5 es el cambio en la relación de aspecto de 3:2 a 16:9, y de una resolución de 960×640 a 1136×640. Eso significa que todos los desarrolladores de Apple tienen que adaptar sus aplicaciones con un extra de 176×640.

Para Apple, la relación de aspecto 16:9 permite una fila extra de iconos en la pantalla de inicio y en las carpetas, un elemento adicional en la lista de correo o en la música y un área de visualización más grande en los mapas y FaceTime. Dado que, a diferencia del iPad, el iPhone se basa en una interfaz de una sola columna, la falta de anchura adicional rara vez será un problema en el modo retrato. Para las aplicaciones de terceros de la App Store, los desarrolladores tienen que añadir soporte para la pantalla 16:9 y señalarlo incluyendo un archivo PNG especial en su aplicación. Muchos desarrolladores ya han actualizado sus aplicaciones. La mayoría de los diseños son list-based (UITableView) o grid-based (UICollectView) o usan el nuevo método flexible (AutoLayout) que permite el posicionamiento relativo independientemente del tamaño de la pantalla. El iPhone 5 es compatible con las cientos de miles de aplicaciones para iPhone que hay en la App Store, aunque no todas ellas hayan sido actualizadas para soportar la nueva pantalla con relación de aspecto 16:9.

El iPhone 5 no es compatible con las fundas de modelos anteriores por razones obvias de tamaño físico. Algunas fundas tipo saco o bolsa podrían encajar, pero la mayoría no lo hará.

El iPhone 5 podría ser compatible con algunos accesorios con conector dock de 30 pines, incluyendo soportes y equipos de música, siempre utilizando el adaptador de 30 pines a Lightning que proporcione las señales correctas y se pueda conectar correctamente. iPhone 5: Guía de compradores

Si no te gusta nada iOS o el iPhone, no hay nada nuevo en el iPhone 5 que te haga cambiar de opinión.

Si estabas interesado en iOS y en el iPhone, pero te faltaba una pantalla más grande o LTE, ahora ya lo tienes. Lo más probable es que te guste, si es que no te enamoras directamente. Sigue siendo el teléfono predeterminado que recomendamos, lógicamente.

Si ya tienes un iPhone 4 o anterior, el iPhone 5 es una excelente actualización. Es todo lo que te gusta de tu actual iPhone, sólo que mucho mejor.
