This past June during WWDC Apple introduced a new way of using Siri. Free Eyes Siri is the name by which the company presented it and it is a mode of the digital assistant to be used without requiring the iPhone screen on.
General Motors will integrate Siri in your next car
This mode is ideally suited for integration into cars and the intention is that the user can use your device using only voice actions. For Siri can function in this way, it is necessary that the car integrates necessary capability. Free Eyes Siri would be linked to a Bluetooth MyLink with the car radio. Once paired the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 (at the moment it is not known if it will be for the version of Siri for iPad), the driver can activate Siri directly from the wheel of your car and give instructions to play songs from iTunes, make calls through the car handsfree or compose a message.
The difference between normal mode and Siri Eyes Free mode, is that the screen of the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 will be off at all times and it will not be possible to perform more complex tasks such as loading a web page or similar. Actions that require the user to look away from the road to look at the screen of your mobile.
The company General Motors was the first to report that integrate this functionality in some of its cars. Also striking that have decided to reserve this feature for high-end cars, but will do more basic models as the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic will be available in early 2013.
Besides General Motors, other car makers have been interested in this technology and other brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota, Honda and Audio already confirmed that also work to integrate Siri Free Eyes in their vehicles in the near future.
Siri is taking center stage and the more prominence is more necessary it is that Apple fixes all the bugs that exist. The idea of the digital assistant is fantastic and works relatively well in optimal situations, but in other situations it is difficult to make Siri understand us, and requires a permanent Internet connection to run and if a car may circulemos roads where Mobile coverage is very poor or nonexistent (long tunnels, roads, etc, etc ...), hopefully in Apple are working to improve Siri and its services .
