The packaging of the iPad Mini uses cardboard based on at least 38% recycled content and molded fiber made from 100% recycled materials.
Apple also notes that the iPad Mini is PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and BFRs (flame retardants), both compounds considered very dangerous. It also uses screens free of arsenic and mercury.
