CheckARz, Chess and iPad 2 Augmented Reality

The company Toyz App! just introduced one of his new toys, this time based on Augmented Reality. Recall that in Augmented Reality iPad 2 is to use gyro sensors, acceleration and position of the tablet to assemble information or objects on the image that contains the rear camera. In this way we can walk through a city, a historic building and framing information, recommendations and old photographs on it.

Augmented Reality is a mature technology that takes a few years in the market of smartphones. However, one of the large gaps to be covered is the use of it in games, as we have not seen major proposals in this regard.

Well, App Toyz! CheckARz just presented, a game that tries to recreate the idea of the famous game of chess that we see in Star Wars, where only the board is real and parts are holograms.

The operation is as follows: we have over a checkerboard colored index cards, to play checkers. Pointing with an iPad 2 (assuming that you will need enough graphics power to render the tiles on the board) will see, as if by magic, our battalion ready to face the enemy of another color.

The guys at Qualcomm, technology geniuses, they collaborated on the project. When moving a real chip on the board, it happens the same in the virtual game, adding an animation to the movement. The game is designed for children and adults what should be both attractive and functional.

Pocket-lint has shown a demo of the game first. CheckARz is still only a prototype, but even so, and shows incredible potential to take a step beyond the way we played, integrating the traditional table games with virtual reality .

Although not going to leave until September 2012, we leave you with a video game running. Still fail at times, but hopefully the end result will be quite satisfactory.

Amazing, no? A lot of games for iPad 2 based on augmented reality are coming ... time to time!
