Canada joins suit against Apple and publishing groups

ibooks Canadá se suma a la demanda contra Apple y los grupos editoriales

A few weeks ago in the United States began an investigation of Apple and five of the major publishers in the country by any practices which might jeopardize competition. The Justice Department wants to find out if Apple agreed to price their ebooks with these publishers for their online store, which would affect its direct competitors like Amazon.

Three of the companies involved in research, Hachette, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster have reached an agreement with the U.S. Justice Department and shall provide compensation to all those who purchase their books through the Apple store, returning part of the money.

However, Apple continues to his guns and two large publishing groups, Penguin and Macmillan, I support their cause and go to trial if necessary. According to Apple's legal team, if given freedom to developers to independently determine the prices of their applications, why not do the same with books?

Well, now the headache for Apple's lawyers moved to Canada. Several legal teams have sued the big publishers and Apple for the same reason. As reported in one of the Canadian lawyers, "the resolution to be given no effect in the United States to Canadian citizens, so we have to process different demands on our country."

So, Canadians could get lucky and also receive compensation from publishers.
