5 reinventing classic children's stories iPad

ipad-aplicaciones-ninos

Anyone who has seen this video of a girl of two years using a iPad know that the famous Apple Touch device has proven to be an intuitive and interactive learning for children.

However, creating applications for children (whether musical games, learning exercises for children with autism or eBooks with a variety of functions) is not easy. Focus the attention of a child in an application requires that have a high degree inventive, interactive and, most importantly, variety.

Josh Koppel, Scrollmotion creative director (the same company that developed the applications Esquire and O, The Oprah Magazine, among others), says the secret to a good application to children is' you can play throughout the application and in unexpected places "while remaining faithful to the original material.

This criterion is particularly true for the classic children's books, many of whom have been reborn as iPad. IPad I recently took a trip to Greece and I was reading a few of these books with children between 4 and 6 years. Those most attracted us - me and the children I was reading them - were, as Koppel said, which allowed to play interactively. It was also important as varied gameplay throughout the application: neither me nor the children they tested the applications we were interested in repeating the same action page after page.

After an exhaustive search we have compiled a list of those who believe are the top 5 classic children's books available for iPad. Can you think someone else to add to the list? Please compartidlos in the comments section below.

IPad Alicia (Alice for the IPAD)

IPad Alicia came to the App Store a few days after the popular Apple device was available for sale and remains one of the best eBook IPAD applications to date.

The application offers a short version and a fantastic story full of Lewis Carroll, interwoven with reproductions colorful, sometimes animated, interactive illustrations in original timber Sir John Tenniel, with a couple of extra layers. The cards and pepper flying, hang watches giant letters, cupcakes and colorful pills fall when rotating the iPad vertical or horizontal, the neck and legs stretched Alicia hit with a finger.

Although Alicia iPad was well above any other eBook in the market even before you leave, could be improved in several respects. The book would be more appealing if all the pages were illustrated and be interactive (two-page format would have solved ) and if the interactive features were a little less repetitive. The illustrations are beautiful, but many of the additional layers (smoke, pepper, cupcakes) are poorly collected and are not consistent with the Tenniel illustrations so stylized. Also would be nice to have cash and audio sound for texts.

In addition to the normal version of 6.99 € is available another free version in the App Store .

Popout! The Tale of Peter Rabbit (PopOut! The Tale of Peter Rabbit)

Of all children's books available for iPad, popout! The Tale of Peter Rabbit [ iTunes link ] is simply the best. No other eBook offers the same richness and variety of interaction and preserved, while all the charm of the original story.

IPad Like Alice, Peter Rabbit combines various elements of the traditional printed editions (including ink and watercolor illustrations in full color and traditional removable tabs) with functionality perfectly molded to the iPad Touch screen and software. The whole story background is the gentle melodies on piano by Claire de Lune and is read by a beautiful female British voice. Written words stand out while listening and young readers can click again on any word to hear it again.

If you click on the little Flopsy and Mopsy laugh, click on falling leaves or raspberries to make large and spreading around the page, closed the jars and the creatures that lurk below issue a little cry. Paper dolls and teapots hanging from its hinges and can rotate the iPad to change the direction of the gravity of the falling leaves. Each page offers an exciting new opportunity, getting that readers are not only eager to know what will happen in the next story, but also fun interactive option to know what to expect.

The application is currently available for 4'99 dollars in the App Store, except for Europe.

Interactive Storybook Jack and the Beanstalk (Jack and the Beanstalk Children's Interactive Storybook)

The interactive storybook Jack and the Beanstalk iPad , iPhone and iPod touch is more like a game and has more modern illustrations of two previous books.

While the two previous books attract both adults and children, Jack and the Beanstalk, attracts more children between 2 and 4 years.

The voice that tells the story makes it into a hot British and highlight the words while you listen. The text floats in a box above (not very pretty, but functional - and can be hidden) on colorful illustrations. If you touch them, humans talk, moo cows, chickens squawking, etc.

The game is built into the application, including a game of matching cards and a coloring page. By clicking on certain objects displayed some chicks dancing (I have not clear yet what to do with the story) and several games. Drag the mouse to their jobs and start banging on their instruments. Up to a cricket and jump.

Jack is available for € 2.99 in the App Store .

/ Bet The Frog Prince (The Frog Prince)

Although Frog Prince , Siena Entertainment, iPhone and iPad is designed upside down, do not lose the intense charm of vector illustrations Budeanu Anca Delia.

A condensed version of the classic lighter of the brothers Grimm, accompanied by harp music and read by the voice of a girl (there are different voices for the princess, the frog prince and human prince.) The highlighted words while listening to read and sound effects (such as bouncing balls) are included throughout the application.

As Jack and the Beanstalk, the text floats in a transparent medium unsightly bar that can be hidden. Unlike the others, there is no interactivity or animation, the interest lies completely in the text and illustrations, which, as I said before, are beautiful.

Anyway, for 0'79 €, it is worth downloading the e-book. For those who enjoyed The Frog Prince, should also take a look at Rumpelstiltskin , the same illustrator.

The wheel of Aesop (Aesop's Wheel)

There are three things really original Aesop's wheel , which contains a few stories abbreviated from the original collection of fables.

The first is the table of contents, which is presented not as a list, but as a wheel that rotates the user to land on one of the stories: an intelligent solution to a collection of stories that need to be read in no particular order . The second is an option that allows users to record their own voice, very successful for young skiers or for parents who are away from home frequently. The third is the number of languages in which the application is available (English, Chinese, Japanese and German).

The application also contains a series of games of "find the difference" that challenge the user to find items that do not appear or appear modified in two pictures side by side.

Pages with the story itself are not too interesting, is just plain text with illustrations by Milo Winter in boxes, devoid of any kind of interactivity.

The application is available for € 3.99 in the App Store .

Honorable Mention

Although we have restricted the list to five books end, we have delighted many other applications from the App Store eBook. Among our favorites are Rumplestiltskin , a book of pop-ups, interactive 3D, The Cat in the Hat , Dr. Seuss, Peter Pan , Robin Hood , Spot Goes to school and the books of the series of Berenstain Bears .
