Do not you love the back of the iPad ? I personally do. But perhaps Apple might be thinking of replacing the material that now comprises the piece (aluminum) as a lighter weight carbon fiber.
Carbon fiber may contribute to rigidity and to IPAD weighing less, however, is a material that breaks very easily to shock, therefore sins to be very fragile.
This Apple patent dates from May 18, 2009 so most likely never see the back iPad carbon fiber.
